Year after year, Atlanta Business Chronicle awards recognitions to the Most Admired CEOs of Metro Atlanta. The list of winners is carefully selected from among nominations and by canvassing previous winners and business leaders across Atlanta. This year, Todd Campbell of Builders was honored for his accomplishments in the Financial Services sector.

Insurance industry veteran Todd Campbell leads as President and CEO of the Builders Insurance Group, a domestic property and casualty insurer headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. His company has successfully navigated a challenging economic and industry environment.

Builders Insurance Group is serving the market

Builders Insurance Group is a super-regional insurer operating in over 20 states. Much of its success lies in its surplus lines carrier business, which is licensed in 49 jurisdictions. This unique segment of the industry consists of non-admitted specialized insurers covering risks not available within the admitted market.

The company has been a vital part of the workers’ compensation, general liability and commercial insurance markets in the Southeast for 31 years.

Builders was founded in 1992 when national carriers were dropping workers’ compensation insurance products, creating a coverage void in Georgia and other states.

Builders Insurance Group is a growing company

The success of the company can be measured in numbers, including $360 million in surplus funds and over $1.1 billion in assets under management, according to the company’s 2023 report.

Since its early days, the company has grown from offering a workers’ compensation policies in the home construction industry to expanding into a wide variety of property and casualty products serving manufacturing, retail, healthcare, hospitality, and restaurants. This expansion includes a builder’s risk product for home building contractors and for select commercial contractors.

Builders Insurance Group is a community champion

The Builders culture provides opportunities for employees to support the local community. The Builders Gives Back committee has launched projects such as constructing a wheelchair ramp for disabled veterans, sponsored builds for Habitat for Humanity, and Sweep the Hooch, et al.

To support education in the industry, Todd also founded the Laurie and Todd Campbell Fund for Academic Excellence at Appalachian State University’s Brantley Risk and Insurance Center. This new fund is part of an ongoing strategy to develop young talent who can then take their place in the insurance industry.
